Greetings, Partygoers!

Hope Randall here – the DC-based PATH staff member who spoke at Party with a Purpose about ORT corners in Kenya and who convinced some of you to try a swig of our oral rehydration “cocktail” (kudos to those brave souls, by the way). I had the privilege of meeting some of you in person, and I want to say how inspired I am by the enthusiasm, keenness, and passion of Seattle’s 20 and 30-somethings.

As you may remember from the Party, I am a Program Assistant for PATH’s diarrheal disease communications and advocacy team (more affectionately known as the “Poo Crew”). I recently completed a yearly review in which my supervisor asked me about my aspirations for the coming year. One of those aspirations is to engage young professionals like me – a demographic that I believe has the drive and the creativity to effect change in the biggest way. Party with a Purpose proved that change begins with passion – and collectively, we have lots of it!

It seems to me that we all left the Party inspired and wanting more. So to pick up where we left off on June 3, I want to make you all aware of simple steps you can take to help us tackle rotavirus and other forms of diarrheal disease:

  • Stay informed by signing up for our quarterly newsletter, “3D News: Perspectives on Defeating Diarrheal Disease.”
  • Follow us on Twitter @defeatDD and retweet our messages.
  • Watch our video about the promise of rotavirus vaccines and share it with friends.
  • Check out our weekly blog – and consider authoring one! Contact me for details.
  • If you work at a global health organization and want to feature a program working on diarrheal disease, let me know. One of our site’s main objectives is to showcase global diarrheal disease control efforts.

After you’ve checked out our website, what ideas do you have about how we can better engage young people in this issue? I’m all ears and would love to hear your questions and feedback.

Sending a big thank you from the “other” Washington,

Hope
