Hands down, one of the best parts about seeing this party develop over the past months has the people coming out of the woodwork to give their time and talent to making this party happen. These are the people who understood our small seed of an idea back in November and ran with it.

It is mind blowing how many incredible people have contributed to making this a reality, and for that, we are so grateful! This party could never have happened without you. On that note, HUGE props to:

Grant Landram, web designer extraordinaire and all-around tech genius

The amazing team at Wexley School for Girls: Andy, Josie, Ali, Catherine, Teddy, Zack & Cory

David Wykes for his design brilliance

DJs Speedy G & MB for the beats that will knock your socks off on the dance floor

All of you lucky enough to get your hands on a hot ticket for tonight’s party should be pretty stoked because we have some pretty amazing things in store. See you all tonight at 8pm with your dancing pants on!

I don’t want to say the Innovation Gallery at this year’s party is going to knock your socks off…. But I am personally planning to not even wear any socks because A) socks don’t bode well with little black dresses and B) the gallery really DOES have the potential to knock your socks off, slap you silly, blow your mind…idiom exhaustion? Valid. I’ll cut to the chase: We feel incredibly honored that the following artists have dedicated their time and talent to be a part of our Innovation Gallery. In looking for new and exciting ways to educate our peers about some of the cutting edge global health innovations being developed in our very own back yard (i.e. Washington), we gambled our luck to see if we could solicit help from local artists. A risk well worth taking. From encaustics and wood carvings to blown glass and spray paint, the diverse experience and mediums of the artists comprising our 2011 Innovation Gallery will be one of the highlights of this year’s party.

Have a sneak peak at some of their prior work and get excited!
For us, that means being outside as much as possible—reading in the park, kayaking on the lake, seeing outdoor concerts, and catching a few Mariners and Sounders games. That also means we get a bit thirsty. Luckily, here’s where our sponsors come in—at a brewery near Safeco Field or a chateau in Woodinville.

We’re Julia Bosch and Bridgette Quinn Greenhaw and we’re a part of the PWAP Sponsorship and Contracts Committee and thrilled to cheers our PWAP’s beverage sponsors—two local companies that support global health: Chateau Ste. Michelle Winery and Pyramid Breweries. These companies care about young people being passionate about a cause—about having fun and giving back at the same time.

Come to the party this Friday, June 17th at McCaw hall and enjoy a glass or two (on us) of a Chateau Ste. Michelle wine – Blanc de Blanc Sparkling Wine, Indian Wells Cabernet Sauvignon or Sauvignon Blanc. Or head out to the beer garden (outside if it’s nice!) and drink up some Curve Ball Blond Ale or a Thunderhead IPA if that’s more your style. Let’s all raise a glass to good sponsors and a great cause—TB elimination and control in Haiti. Cheers!

Unless you’ve been under a rock for the past three years, chances are you’ve heard about how Seattle Sounders FC has revolutionized soccer in our country: season ticket holders get to vote on team decisions, Sounders league game attendance is almost double the MLS average, and a golden scarf is awarded to a worthy community member before each game – just to name a few. But what you may not know is that revolutionizing soccer in our country is not enough for Sounders FC – they want to help tackle health globally.

I’m Lacey Price, I work at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and I’ll admit it: I’M SOUNDERS ‘TIL I DIE. That’s why I was uncontrollably excited when the Sounders happily agreed to sponsor last year’s inaugural Party with a Purpose, gave a free poster to every attendee, and allowed James Riley, Brad Evans, and Pat Noonan to attend. What could be better? I’ll tell you what: Finding out that all that support was not just a publicity stunt. The Sounders administration, management, and players really care about global health. Even before their participation in PWAP2010, they launched campaigns in 2009 and 2010 to help prevent malaria by inviting fans to donate to Nothing But Nets (you can still contribute, and get a Drew Carey bobble head to boot!).

And they’re not slowing down. Not only have they sponsored the party again this year (and yes, players will be in attendance, although the first team squad will be resting-up for their match against Toronto the next day), they’ve also made the Washington Global Health Alliance one of their community partners, and they’re exploring ways to take their passion for soccer and global health to the developing world. COULD I LOVE THE SOUNDERS ANY MORE?! I guess anything is possible…

Libuse Binder here, and today is an excellent day for all the PWAPers out there! The party sold out this morning, and we are gearing up for an incredible night this Friday at McCaw Hall.

As a party board member and the author of Ten Ways to Change the World in Your Twenties, I couldn’t have been more excited when this whole party came to life last year after Kristen Eddings at the Washington Global Health Alliance approached me about throwing the type of party I had outlined in my book. Of course, you can throw a Party with a Purpose of any size, but thanks to founding sponsors like The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and the hard work of the amazing board members and other volunteers, our global health party has almost doubled in size in its second year.

Almost from its inception, the party has had the support of The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, and this year, they came in at the $10,000 Toast of the Town level. We are also very fortunate to have two extremely talented Gates Foundation employees on our board, who have worked tirelessly to make this party a success.

The Gates Foundation is well known for their philanthropic work globally and locally, and some of their many programs include Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene, Agricultural Development, and, of course, Global Health. The support of the Gates Foundation is one of the many reasons the global health movement is vibrant and growing here in Seattle. According to the Foundation, “This is a great local effort that raises awareness in our community about a key global health issue, engages lots of our employees, and also brings young people to Seattle Center, our new campus neighbor.”

Join me in sending a giant shout-out to The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, a founding sponsor of Party with a Purpose. See you on Friday, where we can raise our glasses to The Foundation for their ongoing support of the global health movers and shakers at home and abroad!

Where it began, I can’t begin to know when
But then I know it’s growing strong
Oh, wasn’t the spring, whooo
And spring became the summer
Who’d believe you’d come along

Hands, touching hands, reaching out
Touching me, touching you….

That’s right. A little Neil Diamond to kickstart this post. Why you may ask? Because without reaching out and forming amazing partnerships in our community, there would be no Party! Our sponsors, well, they’re our Sweet Caroline. Not in a creepy way, just in a “good times never seemed so good” way.

My name is Callie, and as a founding member of the Party with a Purpose clan, I remember the day when we found out Brown Paper Tickets, a Seattle-based fair trade ticketing company, was going to take a chance on our little brain child and sponsor last year’s party. An amazing win. Not only has Brown Paper Tickets made all of our lives easier by handling our ticket sales, they’ve also impressed us since day 1 with their commitment to our cause. And they are back again this year, running ticket sales and supporting us with a $500 sponsorship.

As a testament to the momentum we’ve seen since the last party, the $500 sponsorship level this year is being shared by a few other stellar businesses. We are thrilled to have Blume, a Seattle-based commercial real estate company, and GYL Construction, one of the largest locally owned general contractors in the Puget Sound, join the PWAP family. Mercer, an International HR consulting company, and Trilogy International Partners, a Bellevue-based company investing in wireless telecommunication operations throughout the world, are also on board. The collective involvement of these businesses, ranging in size, scope and focus, is a nod to the fact that Seattle, as a hub for global health achievements, is on the rise. Look out!

Hi I’m Lia Yu, I work for Microsoft and I’m the Marketing Committee Chair on the PWAP board. I’m blogging from… the Connector – the Microsoft bus, which is not nearly as glam as Amsterdam (Becky) but hey, it’s got the wifi’s . As you may have caught on by now, this year’s party has some pretty amazing and generous sponsors which we have been lucky enough to work with.

Today, I want to give a big shout out to our in-kind sponsors who have kindly given services and goods to the party this year in support of our cause. Yeah, we think they’re kind of a big deal . What does this mean to you, our party goer? (Ahem, if you haven’t bought your ticket yet, what are you waiting for??) Well, first off, it means a fully stocked beer and wine garden. Thanks to Pyramid and Chateau Ste. Michelle, our beer and wine garden will be serving you the finest alcoholic beverages in town and 2 of those drinks will be free with your ticket. Thank you, Pyramid and Chateau Ste. Michelle!

Ok, booze, check, what else? Well, this year’s party is featuring a scavenger hunt that will, if completed, be your ticket to a drawing for some pretty sick prizes (Get it?? Sick? Vaccines? No? Ok.) Here is the list of what you could win:

2 RT tickets anywhere on Alaska Airlines’ routes

2 RT tickets on Amtrak to Portland with a two night stay at the Hotel Vintage Plaza Portland, the 4 diamond Kimpton property.

1 Mariners Suite for up to 20 people, plus parking passes for up to 5 cars

$500 worth of sweet MSR gear from Cascade Designs, Inc.

1 night at Seattle’s Hotel Monaco and a $50 gift certificate to Sazerac Restaurant courtesy of Kimpton

Still haven’t bought that ticket yet? (Really?) Well, how about entertainment? The act of dancing (aka, shaking your bon bon) at the party is sponsored by 2 awesome partners: One Night Events, LLC for all of our sound equipment plus DJ Speedy G and DJ MB (holla!) and finally Silent Storm Sound System who have given us a great deal on the Silent Disco equipment. For those of you that don’t know what Silent Disco is: A) Come to the party to find out! B) Picture a crowd of people dancing to music playing through wireless headphones and singing along together. Do this every day on the bus? Perfect, now join 160 other people and dance your face off!

Phew, as you can see, our sponsors are flipping awesome, and we thank them for all of their generous donations to the party. Party hats off to you!!!

It’s no secret that Boeing helped put Seattle on the map. As the world’s leading aerospace company, and the largest manufacturer of commercial jetliners and aircraft Boeing is all about innovation. That’s why it’s was no surprise to the Party with a Purpose board when they signed on to support the Party.

Boeing’s sponsorship of $1,000 continues the companies’ long history of contributions to Washington State and we couldn’t be happier to have them as partners on this event–raising awareness for innovative global health organizations right here in our own backyard.

Now I can’t forget to say thanks to our very own board member Jenn Weber. Jenn has been with Boeing for many years, and we can’t thank her enough for her contributions to the Party’s success. Thanks Jenn!

You’ll find more info about Boeing here:
http://www.boeing.com/

And make sure to visit the Museum of Flight-very cool!

Greetings from Jenn Weber, Party with a Purpose Board Member. I feel so boring compared to some of our travelling board members who travel to places like Mozambique and Amsterdam! I am lucky, however, to understand the big role Conservation International (CI) is playing in the world of G-R-E-E-N. Green, as in climate change and work to curb emissions and adapt to change. Green, as in conserving biodiversity. Green, as in understanding, managing and valuing our freshwater ecosystems. How, you ask, is conservation linked to global health? Many ways! CI is getting their hands dirty, championing initiatives like fresh water for all, improving human health by focusing on the role of natural ecosystems and feeding the citizens of the world.

I am so inspired and grateful to say that Conservation International is one of our sponsors. Their generous gift of $2500 not only contributes to our Party with a Purpose, but shows they’re ahead of the curve when it comes to defining the link between environmental and global health. CI believes in our cause and challenges us to think about holistically living to help contribute to a healthier environment.

We are so thankful to have such a wonderful organization as one of our sponsors! A very special thanks to Peter Seligmann for his support!
